If you’re a parent you have felt it. That uneasy feeling when your child does something inappropriate or out of control or defiant in public. That feeling when you know everyone in the room is looking at you, the parent of this hot mess on display, who clearly have failed at parenting. Have you experienced the meltdown in the store, restaurant, or church? When it starts to happen what do you think? It’s moments like these where as Christian parents we need to check our hearts that love to worship the idol of the approval of others. Our role as parents is not to make ourselves look good and pretend we have it all together, but it is to love our kids by teaching them and correcting them.

This article calls us to remember these truths and I would encourage you to check it out: http://thewardrobedoor.com/2014/11/parenting-sanctification-reputation-mind.html

In this video, pastor Kevin DeYoung gives us parents a helpful reminder that, as much as we want to, we can’t be in control of our kids spiritual lives. Instead, we must be faithful to God’s word and trust in His mercies day by day. I look forward to his new book titled Crazy Busy and am sure it will speak truth into my life in many ways. Timothy Paul Jones is a professor at Southern Seminary and a pastor at Sojourn Community Church in Louisville, KY. He came to Calvary last year to preach and to speak on discipling your children to parents and grandparents. I have counted it a privilege to listen to him lecture, preach, and have a few personal conversations about family ministry and I think that he is spot on in this article on ministry and parenting. This is a MUST READ for parents who are serious about leading their children spiritually and ministers serious about equipping parents to do just that.

We hear statistics all the time about kids leaving church. Many have experienced the pain of watching their children or those they know not walk with the Lord when they have gotten older. We wonder why so many who grew up in our children’s ministries and youth groups aren’t around anymore or plugged in to any local church anywhere. I wonder why the majority of the folks I grew up with in church and youth group aren’t walking with the Lord. These questions have answers and here is an article taking a stab at how to answer that question (I think he’s spot on!). Hopefully, we parents and youth leaders and pastors will do our part to avoid allowing our kids to become a statistic. Enjoy.
